My name is Dan Roberts and I am thrilled to have joined the Senior Leadership Team here at GEMS Winchester School Dubai. With a Masters in Educational Research and a degree in Geography, I have an overall experience of 12 years in Teaching.
This is my first experience of working outside of the UK and I do not believe I could have found a more inclusive, friendly and family-orientated school. While I may be new to Dubai, I have a huge amount of experience of school leadership and school improvement; over the course of my career, I have held many roles, including Teacher of Geography and Humanities, Head of Humanities, Assistant Head Teacher. In my most recent role before joining WSD, I was Deputy Head Teacher at a school-based in Cambridge, UK. In that role, I was responsible for improving the quality of teaching and learning in my school, which then improved the examination results in the school. Through my work, the school was designated ‘Good’ by the school inspectors for the first time in its history.
I have been attracted to GEMS Winchester School Dubai as I believe my experience equips me well to help drive improvement in the school so that we ultimately become recognised as an ‘Outstanding’ school by the KHDA. I am a true believer that ‘Better never stops’ and I am driven by a constant quest to improve myself and the students and staff I am responsible for. In my new role, I am responsible for the quality of curriculum and pastoral care in Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9). Further to that, I have responsibility for Student Leadership across the whole school, as well as working closely with Mr. Nick on teaching and learning across the secondary school.
I look forward to seeing our students make excellent progress this year – we know if they arrive at school every day with the attitude that they will ‘Work Hard, Be Good’, I know they will leave their time at GEMS Winchester School Dubai with the best qualifications they can achieve and as importantly, as well-rounded citizens.
