Daniel Roberts

My name is Dan Roberts and I have been part of the GEMS Winchester School Dubai family since August 2019. Having initially joined as Deputy Head of Secondary, I was appointed Executive Vice Principal/Deputy CEO in 2022. I completed my undergraduate degree, Master’s degree and PGCE at the University of Cambridge before beginning my career as a Geography teacher within a small multi-academy trust in the UK, where I progressed to Deputy Headteacher.

I firmly believe that better never stops and that great schools are built on high expectations, strong relationships and a relentless commitment to improving outcomes for every student. At WSD, my leadership focuses on whole-school improvement, particularly teaching and learning, professional development, quality assurance and leadership development.

This commitment to continuous improvement also shapes my own professional learning. I am a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching, have completed the National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL) and have achieved Chartered Teacher Status for Leadership from the Chartered College.

My work also extends beyond WSD. As a Teach Like a GEM Excellence Fellow, I support evidence-informed teaching across the wider GEMS Education network, helping teachers and leaders translate research into consistent, high-impact classroom practice. I also work as a British Schools Overseas inspector and NPQ facilitator and coach, supporting the development of current and future school leaders.

At the heart of my leadership is a commitment to ensuring that every student, regardless of their starting point or individual needs, receives an excellent education. Schools should secure strong academic outcomes while developing the character, confidence and values young people need to contribute positively to their communities.

This moral purpose is captured in a simple statement: “Work Hard. Be Good.” My ambition is that students leave WSD having achieved the strongest outcomes possible, while becoming confident, compassionate and well-rounded young people ready to make their mark on the world.
